Slight Confession...

January 17, 2010

....I have a thing for old people. :)  Last night I got a chance to go play for the good folks out at The Seville in Orem.  It all started last semester during finals week.  I had this amazing professor for the Master's Finance course who had an "option" final.  In a nutshell, that means that if we passed the class oral final, we had the "option" to take the individual final, or, if we were comfortable with the grades we had earned to that point, we could complete a service final.  I arranged to go play piano at this small retirement home, and long story short, they canceled on me.  I ended up calling The Seville on a whim, and it turned out that they had time that day for me to come by.  After playing for a bit, the activities coordinator asked me if I would be willing to come play background music for their Christmas dinner that night.  Of course I agreed, and decided to bring along the harp as well.  After that night, I agreed to come out in January, which was last night.

These folks are some of the sweetest people you'll ever meet.  I seriously never practice, mess up all the time, and they are so grateful for it anyway. I think my favorite comment was from this adorable lady who said "just think, when we all get to heaven you'll already know how to play."

Dal was nice enough to come out with me, and it's thanks to him for the photos.  I didn't notice myself, but he told me after that there was the sweetest couple there.  The wife was still one of those gals who liked to get ready for her husband, and still wore makeup.  Dal was watching them throughout, and he noticed that the husband had a tan stain on his shoulder.  At first he didn't think much of it, but then he realized that the wife was on the other side, head on the guy's shoulder.  Obviously it was from her.  When he told me after, I couldn't help but smile.  I am so going to be that way when we're old--maybe not the lots of make-up part, but definitely snuggly.  It's always a great night when you get a new life goal. :)
